Too cool for life

Being cool has evolved, it seemed.
In the 90s, it was cool to be at the top of the class.
It used to be cool to have a new Gameboy Advance. ..
At one point in human existence it used to be cool to rock an afro or be a Hippie.

Teenagers today have sourced the definition of “cool” from another dictionary.

BUT FIRST… LET ME TAKE A SELFIE!

Another fad has emerged it seems.
Instagram has brought to my attention that taking pictures or videos while driving is indeed a thing.

Am I the only person that finds this ridiculous? How is this even a thing?

Besides the fact that almost everybody knows somebody who was in a car accident, died from a car accident or in a near death automobile accident…knowledge that this practice is reckless, dangerous and extremely stupid goes without saying.

What’s the train of thought behind this?

“Ohhh, I’m behind the wheel of a vehicle on a road with other vehicles, and pedestrians while flooring the gas pedal…but first let me take a selfie.”
Is taking a selfie in the bathroom too mainstream nowadays? What’s next? Taking a selfie while crossing a busy intersection? Shall we start taking selfies at every point in life?

The clichéd expression “There is a time and a place for everything” fits perfectly. In Jamaica, more than 300 people die per year because of automobile accidents. And you mean to tell me that teenagers, educated, rational thinking teenagers are driving around with one hand on the wheel, one hand videoing and their head turned towards the phone or the person in the passenger seat? What ever happened to safe driving and being responsible. Too cool for that?

IT’S COOL TO BE A CRIMINAL

Justin Bieber, heartthrob and the love of millions of lives was recently charged for driving under the influence. Heartthrobs revolt, block road and post on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr- petitioning for him to be set free.

Vybz Kartel, a Jamaican artiste convicted of murder, has more supporters than the number of people giving to charity.
Their reason for wanting him to be released: they want him to continue making music.

If common sense fails us; the knowledge that Justin Bieber’s actions could have killed somebody we love, or that Vybz Kartel could have very well murdered somebody we care about or that some idle teenager romping about taking videos while driving could be our friend or could run over an innocent pedestrian should be enough to open our eyes.

Should.

This generation is just too cool for life. Playing by the rules put in place to protect our lives is lame.

Let’s do ourselves a favour and stock up on the black outfits in our closet. We’re starting to need them more and more.

Mr. Perfect

Every girl has an idea of Mr. Perfect. I can’t really say where it came from, but it is very real. Maybe it’s a result of all those awesome Disney movies we’ve all watched and memorized as little girls or maybe it’s innate. Perhaps all... Continue →
